"Simunye taught me to fight": 10 years on the frontlines at CHEP-SA pallet maker

Simunye Workers Forum activist Sifiso tells his story as part of the SWF 10 year anniversary activities.

Simunye Workers Forum - SWF activist, Sifiso Khubeka, is on strike at CHEP. He tells his story as part of the SWF 10 year anniversary activities.

"I work at Chep, but under a labour broker called Contracta Force. I joined the Simunye Workers Forum in 2016 when it started. I have been there from the time it started in 2016 until now.

I have gone through many struggles with the Simunye Workers Forum because, as I said, I work under a labour broker. From the beginning we have been struggling and fighting with the bosses so that they can absorb us as permanent workers. Even now we are still fighting the bosses. They have not made us permanent yet, and at the moment we are on strike at CHEP because of that issue.

So, our struggle is still continuing.

The Simunye Workers Forum means a lot to me because it is where I get knowledge. That is where I have learned a lot about laws as a worker and about my rights. That is also where we usually share everything. It means a lot to me because it caters for me.

What I have learned as a member of the Simunye Workers Forum is how to stand up for yourself, how to fight for your rights, and that anything is possible if you fight for what you know is right for you."
