The rapist must be prosecuted fast - domestic workers deserve safety at work%>
The Simunye Women Workers’ Forum (SWWF) is protesting now outside the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court where the long-delayed rape case involving one of our members is due to be heard.
Our member is a domestic worker nearing retirement. She reported that she was raped at work by a much younger co-worker in 2024. Since then, the case has been postponed several times. Her employer has also failed to provide her with any support.
Every postponement forces our member to wait longer for justice and prolongs her pain. Survivors should not have to protest repeatedly simply to get their cases heard.
SWWF demands that the case proceed without any further delays. We call on the justice system to treat gender-based violence cases with the urgency and seriousness they deserve.
Domestic workers are among the most vulnerable workers in South Africa. They often work behind closed doors, where abuse can be hidden and employers can avoid accountability. No worker should have to face violence in the workplace and then be abandoned by both the employer and the justice system.
SWWF members and supporters will gather outside the court to stand with our member and demand justice.
*JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED!*
*NO MORE POSTPONEMENTS!*
